Day 7 Of The 7 Day Mental Diet 2019

Day 7 Of The 7 Day Mental Diet 2019

Congratulations. You made it! This diet has introduced you to the Yoga of Love, the absolute unfailing key to freedom from the bondage of self. Today continue employing that smile and take a few minutes in quiet contemplation to review what you learned/discovered about yourself the last few days. Consider writing down your thoughts and feelings to mark the work you have done, perhaps even begin keeping a journal of your journey. Moving forward anytime you feel a little spiritual boot camp is in order, revisit this simple plan and gently, always gently, reapply its principles. Now you can share your experience with anyone you believe would profit from it. The diet has put you in touch with the Primal Power of Being. This power is what changes us. It is the motive force behind everything. It is no less than our connection, at the most basic and profound level, to the creative life force that permeates everything and everyone. That power is Divine Love.
“Speak to Him, thou, for He hears, and Spirit with Spirit can meet– Closer is He than breathing, and nearer than hands and feet.” Tennyson

Day 6 Of The 7 Day Mental Diet 2019

Day 6 Of The 7 Day Mental Diet 2019

Hang in there, only 1 more day to go. Then again, you may be experiencing such profound changes in your outlook you may desire more. Today’s exercise is on meditating on love and its power, its ability to change us at our core and the amazing availability of love. Love is always available, if we are willing to take action. Faith without works is dead and just as with faith, love requires action. We must build up “by faithful daily exercise a true Love Consciousness.” This is a key ingredient in our daily diet since “Love and tolerance of others is our code.”

The path of enlightenment requires work, effort on our part. We start our day by “asking each morning in meditation that our creator show us the way of patience, tolerance, kindliness and love.” Do you start your day with meditation? No? Why not? Would you try to make a cake without flour? Drive your car missing a tire? Of course not. Meditation is an integral part of living on the Spiritual Basis. If you are not meditating daily, start at a simple level. Find a quiet place where you will be undisturbed for a few minutes. Take 2 or 3 deep cleansing breaths, inhaling through the mouth, then slowly exhaling through the nose. With eyes closed, consider what patience, tolerance, kindliness and love mean to you. Your mind will begin to visualize, do not fight it or try to control it. In your minds dialogue stay focused on the task at hand. When your mind wanders, and it will, gently bring it back. When it wanders again end your session and thank God for knowing Him better. What could be easier? Limit your sessions to 10 to 15 minutes. This is sufficient to start the day and we can all find this amount of time if we are willing. Of course, if you have the time and are moved to longer sessions, then do but remember, always be gentle, for we have ceased fighting anyone or anything.

Day 5 Of The 7 Day Mental Diet 2019

Day 5 Of The 7 Day Mental Diet 2019

…God is love; and he that dwells in love dwells in God, and God in him (1 John 4:16). Day 5: Today, attempt to greet everyone, and view everything through the prism of love. This begins by greeting all with a smile. You will not do this perfectly, only a saint could, the purpose is to be aware of love, pay attention to love, to experience the truly limitless capacity we have for it, to both give and receive. Observe how those whom you meet respond when you greet them with love and a smile in your eyes, how your thoughts are altered when a situation or a bit of news is viewed through the prism of love. The path of love is the straight gate and the shortest way to the Great Goal, to live on the Spiritual Basis a day at a time for the rest of our lives. Oh, and you are keeping this to yourself for the next couple of days, right?

Day 4 Of The 7 Day Mental Diet 2019

Day 4 Of The 7 Day Mental Diet 2019

Day 4: Consider: You are sitting by a camp fire and a hot cinder flies up and lands on your sleeve. If you brush the cinder off at once, without a moments delay, no harm is done. However, if you allow it to rest for even a few heartbeats, under any pretense, the mischief is done, leaving a hole in your shirt and possibly a welt on your arm to mark its passing. So, it is with negative thought.

Simply stated we have no control over the thoughts which float up from our subconsciousness or are foisted on us by others, but we do choose how we will address them. Living on the Spiritual Basis the path is clear: When we immediately supplant a negative thought with a positive one, we remain unharmed, our spiritual “sleeves” hole free. Additionally, remember we do not try to discern or understand why a particular thought crossed our mind, avoiding the trap of morbid reflection; we simply take the necessary action to address it. Kinda like a house fire, why it started of little importance when putting it out quickly is the goal. In time, this will become second nature.

By this point in the diet you are probably experiencing some difficulties, it may feel like everything is seemingly going sideways, you have more trouble now, more spiritual discontent than when you started. Outstanding! You have shaken your world at its bedrock and when the shaking stops, a new and much stronger foundation will be in place. So, take heart and stay the course and again under no circumstance discuss what you are doing with anyone at this point of the diet. Onwards through the fog.

Day 3 Of The 7 Day Mental Diet 2019

Day 3 Of The 7 Day Mental Diet 2019

Day 3: Having fun yet? The diet may be simple, but it certainly is not easy. Continue being vigilant; watching for morbid reflection, those negative or destructive thoughts and judgements which seem to always be lurking, waiting for the chance to spring up and dominate our train of thought. When you find your thoughts drifting in this manner immediately supplant the negative and destructive thoughts with positive. At this point simple affirmations are probably best, like: “There is no power greater than God, and God is love” “I freely forgive all who have negatively touched my life” or simply “Be still and know that I am God.” Most importantly is that it sings to your heart.
As you are beginning to discover, this can be a strenuous effort, and few would be able to do this for much more than seven days so take heart, the dividends you will receive are worth the effort. Keep in focus the reason for this diet: to be aware of our thinking in a new light and to learn to plant positive, constructive, optimistic, and kind thoughts in the garden of our consciousness; watered with the love and guidance of the Creative Power of the Universe. Shhhh…and remember, don’t tell anyone you are on a diet. Follow this advice as well if you are considering starting a weight loss plan, an exercise program or quitting smoking and your odds of success will increase exponentially.

Day 2 of the 7 Day Mental Diet

Day 2 of the 7 Day Mental Diet 2019

If you are still considering whether to attempt this diet, take a moment in quiet contemplation and ask yourself why? What is there truly to be afraid of? This contemplation alone is worth the price of admission, but remember, always be gentle with yourself, avoiding morbid reflection and condemnation at all costs.

Day 2: If you began the diet yesterday, today choose the subjects you will entertain in your consciousness. Measure the emotional tone, being aware at all times of what you are thinking and how it is affecting you. Now for some good news, no one does this perfectly. When you become aware your thoughts have wandered somewhere negative, and they will, consider why you drifted into that thought and how it affected you emotionally, don’t judge or search for cause, just observe. Often these are just random thoughts triggered by a scent, a word or phrase or any of the multitudes of sensory inputs we experience daily, so do not give into paralysis by analysis. Remember, often a cloudy day is just a cloudy day, nothing more. If you find perhaps there is more to it and you cannot take a moment now, briefly note the thought and when you have the time, reflect on it in gentle contemplation. There is a rule here that must be obeyed, the rule is we are never to struggle or engage in negative appraisal of these random thoughts. We simply observe what floats through our mind as dispassionately as we can; this is not an exercise in judging, only in observing and noting effects.

A New Approach To Start The New Year

A New Approach To Start The New Year

We live with a continuous barrage of negativity. Read any newspaper, watch any news channel or surf the internet and the hammers of negativity begin doing their work on our psyche. Living on the Spiritual Basis is a choice, it is the road less traveled. History is an invaluable tool that few truly employ. There is nothing in today’s headlines that has not happened before, nothing.

“The world is not going to the dogs. The human race is not doomed. Civilization is not going to crash. The captain is on the bridge. Humanity is going through a difficult time, but humanity has gone through difficulties many times before in its long history, and has always come through, strengthened and purified.
Do not worry yourself about the universe collapsing. It is not going to collapse, and anyway that question is none of your business. The captain is on the bridge. If the survival of humanity depended upon you or me, it would be a poor lookout for the Great Enterprise, would it not?
The captain is on the bridge. God is still in business. All that you have to do is to realize the Presence of God where trouble seems to be, to do your nearest duty to the very best of your ability; and to keep an even mind until the storm is over.”

When Emmet Fox wrote this in the 1930’s the depression was in full swing, prohibition the law of the land, the heart of America gripped in a manmade “black blizzard” of dust that bankrupted and displaced millions, the storm clouds of war gathering in Europe as Hitler rose to power. Economic hardship, unemployment, war on drugs, environmental disasters, Iran, Iraq, North Korea, bickering politicians, same stories only the names and dates have changed. Politicians and leaders, both religious and secular, have been applying the same answers and solutions to mankind’s struggles for thousands of years, with the same results transcending generations. Unfortunately, each succeeding generation fails to profit from the lessons learned by their predecessors and proceeds to travel down the same failed paths, leading inevitably to more pain and suffering.

Nothing changes if nothing changes, but when we change the way we look at things, the things we look at change. Living on the Spiritual Basis we trust infinite God rather than our finite self or the world for salvation, for if we are ever to truly walk a different path as a people, the change must begin within each of us. So once again, our mantra needs to be: Let there be peace, and let it begin with me.

Fear Hates Unicorns

Fear Hates Unicorns

A gathering of geese is a gaggle. A brood of chickens is a clutch. A gathering of unicorns is known as a blessing. Unicorns hold a curious place in our consciousness. Virtually every other creature, whether real or mythical, has been depicted as both good and evil, depending on the point trying to be made or the consciousness of the time. Cats were worshiped in ancient Egypt and then nearly wiped out in Europe during the Middle Ages since many believed them to be the familiars of witches, which is believed to have caused the flea infested rat population to explode, spreading the black plague. Lions, tigers, bears (oh my!), snakes, dragons, sharks, spiders, crocodiles, horses and dogs have spent time on either side of the street and though typically negative, even rats and cockroaches have found some to sing their praises. The unicorn however is always depicted in a positive, mystical light, never deadly or harmful directly or indirectly, the most negative depiction its supposed foolishness when called by Noah.

Spiritually the unicorn represents freedom and willingness and by Living on the Spiritual Basis we choose to ride the unicorn. Unlike the horse, which is bridled and controlled, the unicorn will not submit to saddle or bridle for it is not a beast of burden but a force of nature. The unicorn does not need our input on the direction of travel, for its vision is singular. The unicorn does not require our strength, for it draws strength directly from The Source of all creation. The unicorn does not go around trouble and discontent; for trouble and discontent vanishes as it approaches.

The Adversary, Fear, will shout at us to avoid the unicorn and walk like other men. To be free we resist Fear’s clarion call and jump on the unicorns back as it strides by, grabbing its mane tight, digging our heels into its side for in so doing we demonstrate willingness, though fearful, to ride on, come what may. Soon you will find yourself surrounded by other unicorns, most unfortunately rider less, but truly in the midst of a blessing.

The Zombies Of Morbid Reflection

The Zombies Of Morbid Reflection

Resentments are persistent things, a lot like zombies. When we reflect morbidly on the past we are engaging in mental grave robbing. Now, no matter what else we do, until a zombie is dealt with, typically by shooting them in the head if the movies are accurate, they will keep coming back inflicting more havoc and much like zombies resentments move slowly but steadily. Morbid reflection usually starts when we begin rehashing an old hurt, infusing it with new life, often without even remembering how we started down this path of thought in the first place. This mental grave robbing happens when we backtrack on forgiveness. Now Zombies never have our best interests in mind, in fact they just want to eat our brains. Morbid reflection does exactly the same thing, except it is from the inside out.

To be free of morbid reflection we must forgive, in thought and deed, those who have transgressed against us. Additionally, we must forgive ourselves for all our transgressions, real and imagined. As the Great Carpenter taught… let the dead bury the dead (Matthew 8:22), leave resentments and old hurts in the peaceful ground of forgiveness, lest we unearth a morbid reflection zombie and we all know how hard they are to evict once they take up residence.

Sleeping At The Switch

hSleeping At The Switch

If you are not a student of history, become one. There truly is nothing new under the sun when it comes to human interaction. Read headlines from 70 years ago and if it were not for some archaic words and the names of the players, they are virtually indistinguishable from today’s. Peel back another 100 years and you will find the same. Articles and editorials on health care, immigration, taxes, war, political infighting, politicians attacking one another, protests in the streets, ads for all manner of “miracle” cures, medicines, and diets etc. We are destined to repeat the past when we fail to recognize it. Nothing changes if nothing changes. When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

We all know or have met people with closed minds, essentially sleepwalking through life, usually finding them at family gatherings and the workplace. They have little or no interest in any new information or considering a differing point of view. They are “set” in their ways, curiosity long dead. Living on the Spiritual Basis requires us to be open-minded, to be open to fresh winds of thought, considering all points of view dispassionately, curious to learn and grow regardless of our chronological age or circumstances. To be clear: Living in the Light does not mean these fresh winds necessarily blow away our beliefs or change our opinions, though they may, but it is a demonstration of open-mindedness, compassion for those we may disagree with for they, like us, are children of the Miraculous. One of the measures of an individual’s spiritual condition is how they treat their fellows, but of these measures how we treat those we find disagreeable is paramount.

Do not allow yourself to “fall asleep at the switch” mentally. Keep your consciousness switched on by praying and meditating daily to be shown God’s will and how you may be of service to your fellows. Keep your faith lively, your connection to the divine open, for by doing so we grow and gently prod those slumbering around us. Whether they choose to rouse themselves is their demonstration, ours is to serve as a consistent example of Living in the Light, regardless and often in spite of any and all criticism.
