Assisting Those Struggling From Addiction and Those Who Love Them
We triumph over life’s inevitable
challenges not by the exercise of willpower or brute force but by tapping into
the power of the Infinite. Many paths lead to our ultimate awakening, and most
begin with spiritual discomfort wrapped in fear. Sickness (our own or a loved
ones), addiction, financial stress, a failed relationship and death (a loved
one or contemplating our own) are all beginnings, for truly “the only
instrument sharp enough to cut away the excess of self is pain.” The
greatest gift we can give ourselves is a foundation in faith before these
assaults on our serenity begin. The pain and discomfort of dealing with the
ultimate questions of living will not be avoided, but we will have a clear-cut
set of directions to follow out of the wilderness to peace of mind and heart.
To follow this path we must set aside our preconceived ideas and don a new pair
of glasses and “Become quick to see where spiritual people are right and make
use of what they offer.” Laying aside our prejudices we listen and learn
with our heart, for in the end, isn’t finding a way out more important than who
provides it? If you were drowning and a rope appeared before seizing it would
you first question who held it? So, we put aside any lingering prejudice
against any spiritual path and make use of what they have to offer, taking what
we need at this time and leaving the rest (remember, this selfishness is God inspired and is part of our growth) and
join them in “trudging the road of happy destiny.”

The promises from Living on the
Spiritual Basis are pearls beyond price: “We are going to know a new freedom
and a new happiness. We will not regret the past or wish to shut the door on
it. We will comprehend the word serenity and we will know peace…That feeling of
uselessness and self-pity will disappear…Self-seeking will slip away. Our whole
attitude and outlook upon life will change. Fear of people and of economic
insecurity will leave us. We will intuitively know how to handle situations
which used to baffle us…When we look back, we realize that the things which
came to us when we put ourselves in God’s hands were better than anything we
could have planned…As we felt new power flow in, as we enjoyed peace of mind,
as we discovered we could face life successfully, as we became conscious of His
Presence, we began to lose our fear of today, tomorrow or the hereafter. We
were reborn.”
“Are these extravagant
promises? We think not…They will always materialize if we work for them” (Alcoholics
Anonymous).
If this and more is promised to those suffering from addiction, could you
expect anything less in your life? Place your will and life into the hands of
the Miraculous and this and so much more is yours, for it is the Promise and
God keeps all His promises.

Some Career Highlights:
I’m pissed. No, I’m way beyond pissed. For the last year I have played by the fricken rules, made nice and tried to engage in conversation the shot callers in the Addiction Treatment Industry and Government leaders to start a real dialogue about addiction. But you see, I am not part of the club. I am just the guy on the front lines, down in the mud, the blood and the tears of addiction and have been for over 30 years. I am the guy who sits with the family to try and help them make sense out of how their child completed a treatment program, “coined” out, maybe even got a certificate of completion and 2 weeks after coming home died of an overdose. Or how their loved one came to California for treatment and then promptly checked out of the program and disappeared into the growing homeless community made up largely of people who did the same thing. And then there is that conversation were their child or loved one went to one of those “evidence based” cash only programs and now they are 100,000 dollars or more in debt and their loved one has come home with an implant to control cravings which has to be regularly renewed at substantial cost rarely covered by insurance. Or even better, addicted to Suboxone which they must take daily to avoid going into withdrawals, costing hundreds of dollars a month out of pocket. Oh, and Suboxone withdrawal symptoms make kicking Heroin look like a walk in the frickin park. And whether implant or Suboxone, the family is pretty much left to figure it out on their own since professional aftercare is virtually nonexistent because Health Care providers don’t cover it as the system is currently rigged. How long do they need the implants? How long should they stay on Suboxone? Do they have to go back to a Medical Detox to get off it, and who pays for that? Did you know that some of the “leaders” in the treatment field are even advocating keeping people on these drugs permanently as a solution? Some even suggesting under the guise of “harm reduction” that we establish safe injection sites staffed by trained medical professionals for heroin users “to protect them” while teaching alcoholics to drink “responsibly” which is a path that has been tried and failed for hundreds of years. Pure insanity.
And though addiction has been recognized as a serious health issue for decades, hell, we even amended the Constitution to make alcohol illegal 100 years ago, yet addiction and those suffering from its’ ravages is worse today than ever before. Billions spent and decades worth of educational programs like Scared Straight, Just Say No and D.A.R.E. have accomplished precious little, uncounted Congressional hearings, wasted millions in grants and over a Trillion dollars spent on a failed war on drugs, which has been lost.
With the passage of the ACA (Obama care) in 2010 the Substance Abuse Treatment Industry exploded. To tap into this 60+billion dollar a year pile of money Treatment Centers sprang up all over the country, but primarily in Florida and Southern California which has now become known as the “Rehab Rivera” with over 1000 facilities currently in business. Their web pages invariably loaded with pictures of beautiful beaches and photoshopped smiling people. Many even making promises of long-term success touting impossible to verify statistics as to their “programs” effectiveness.
Look, most of the people who work in the industry are there for the right reasons, many, if not most, people in recovery themselves. Unfortunately, because of the money available unsavory, ethically bereft individuals who will say or do anything, screw the human cost, jumped in.
If you have lost someone to addiction who went through treatment or are losing someone now or are just sick and tired of feeling powerless, join me in changing the world of addiction, tearing down what has so clearly failed and replacing it with focused recovery tailored to the individual instead of forcing them into a “box” that ill fits. Long term engagement and real, consistent, aftercare for them and their families since addiction affects not only the sufferer but those who care and love them as well. And how to pay for it all without primarily relying on Healthcare Providers and Government. Go to https://miraclesofrecovery.com/ and read the blueprint, spread the word and contribute what you can to change the face of recovery, together we can change the world.

Most of these deaths are people under 30, who had had multiple stays in treatment. We have the tools yet we are failing.
The conversation with a parent concerning the overdose death of their child is one of the hardest things I have ever done or will ever do, and would hope to never do again, but if nothing changes, there will be far too many more.
Nothing changes, if nothing changes.
If you have lost someone to addiction and are tired of feeling powerless or are in recovery yourself and see the need for change, please donate and add your voice to help me remove the stigma of addiction, build bridges to the future and turn the current increasing tide of tragedy, suffering and death to one of joy, freedom and life. Your help and support will save lives.
With the steady increase in young people seeking help who are being poorly served by the current recovery communities, treatment modalities which abruptly stop due to Health Care Providers often arbitrary coverage guidelines, the current appalling lack of any real aftercare which has led to today’s unacceptably high relapse/overdose rates, and the increasing incidences of permanent mental illness from Synthetic Marijuana, Spice, Bath Salts and Crystal Meth, it is past time to act, to modernize the current recovery paradigm, to help all who suffer as well as those who love and care about them, to make sustainable long term healthy recovery real, affordable and available for the millions longing to be free of addiction.
When things are going well there is a natural tendency to slack off a touch, even in our spiritual work. The sun is shining, the clouds decorating a peaceful sky, perfect for watching lying on a soft bed of grass, peace immanent. Life is good. Though we do and should enjoy these times we must remain wary of complacency. Like the athlete who trains daily for occasional competitions, we pray and meditate daily to keep our connection to the Miraculous fresh and open for the inevitable storms that come to every life. Living on the Spiritual Basis we now understand the rain falls on the just and the unjust equally, not as punishment or Karma, but as opportunities to grow beyond limitation. Living on the new basis, the Spiritual Basis, today when a storm comes, we gently step back into the shelter of Spiritual Truth, out of the wind and rain, continuing to pray and meditate until the storm passes and peace returns. Having embraced eternity we now understand the truth of being, that behind every cloud, the sun still shines, and every storm brings the ingredients for growth and an opportunity to demonstrate faith and trust in a Power Greater Than Ourselves.
